"Can't Touch This"

After a pretty emotional week at work and on the pavement, Jack and I went downtown last night to celebrate our friend Mary's upcoming birthday. Shokitini, a sushi and karoake bar was the location and the company was hilarious. We had a woderful time with great friends and a lot of much needed laughter (maybe at the expense of other!!!) Good times!

UGA Picture Day 2009

Football is in the air--can't you feel it?!? Last night, we all went to the big rivalry football game between the two local high schools. It's so much fun these days now that we are getting to know more and more people in the community and I have taught more and more kids at the high school.

After a run and a lazy morning, we all got decked out in our Georgia gear and headed to Sanford Stadium for our first Picture Day. Jack was sweet enough to go early this morning and get us a ticket to meet Coach Richt. We enjoyed seeing all the football players along with the cheerleaders, Gymdogs, and every imaginable sport from equestrian to volleyball.

At supper we ran into some great friends that we haven't seen in a while and we all enjoyed catching up and visiting. Hopefully, there will be more of that to come.

Tonight it's movie and popcorn night with Kinsey. One of my favorites. Good times indeed!

Run = Fun

So it was a complete coincidence that several running-themed events took place this weekend. My running group completed our 13-mile run which puts us exactly halfway through our marathon training program. We decided to plan a fun night out with our hubbies to celebrate.

Before our night out, though, we took the kids to the annual Titan Twilight fun run. This was Kinsey's 4th year running and Max's debut. The Griner guys also ran again this year. Everyone did a great job and gave wonderful effort, especially considering the unbearable heat, and most importantly, they all had a blast doing it. Both Kinsey and Max finished strong, each earning 2nd place in their gender/age group. Max had a *little* bit more assistance in his race as Mom realized she MIGHT have been dragging him a tad!!!

After quick showers, we headed out for a grown-up night on the town. We had too much fun before dinner and ended up being a bit late for our dinner reservations. No matter, though, because the fun time continued at supper and then afterward as we tried to catch a snapshot (with the help of a pickup truck and a camera timer function) of our fun night out. It's been a while since I've laughed so hard!

A Year in Time

Wow! What a difference a year makes! Back-to-school bathtime then and now.

What's Up, Doc?

Last week was a week filled with excitement, anticipation and most certainly DREAD! On Monday, after dealing with pain and discomfort for almost a year, Jack went in to have exploratory surgery on his shoulder. The doctors and therapists believed he had torn his labrum, which I think is a ring of cartilage separating his shoulder and the socket it sits in. We were both a bit suprised to find out post-surgery that in ADDITION to a torn labrum, he also had a torn rotator cuff and a bone spur which were all fixed arthroscopically, thank goodness. So six weeks of immobilization and a sling-wearing, physically therapy-attending husband is what I've got on my hands. Two days after surgery is Kinsey's first day of "big school" as well as MY first day with students. Kinsey, my bus-riding daugther (I can't believe that part) had a wonderful first week and was lucky enough to get our good friend and neighbor as her teacher. We are soooo excited! So needless to say, it was a long and exhausting week. I am continuing with my marathon training and am halfway there, but will willingly admit that this was hands down the hardest week and I'm NOT referring to my muscles or joints. This back-to-school routine is going to take some getting used to. So, aside from a small bus mishap (I will tell nothing more than my five-year-old told her bus driver where she WANTED to be dropped off which didn't match where she was SUPPOSED to be dropped off and SHE won--all turned out fine,) the we conquered the week and are ready for more. Bring it on!!!
